Race Report Saturday 8 August 2026

A hotly contested start line. Photo by Peter Collie.

Sprint RacingLast Saturday was shaping up to be a great day on the water, the glorious sunshine in the morning had presented a 10 knot westerly, which promptly turned to ZERO knots at the 12pm briefing. Still, with sailors enthusiastic to give it a go (and a promise from the weatherman of NE for the afternoon), we set out on the bay and initially made preparations for a racecourse for where the wind was last seen to the west. Our two Safety Rescue Boats proved equally versatile for towing the fleet of 10-15 Lasers from the club to the course – thanks to our race team on the

Winter Women's Squad – Warming up for Spring

Winter Women’s Squad – Warming up for SpringIf you’ve been down at the club over winter, you may have seen the ‘Winter Women’s Squad’, with five of our female sailors taking part in a six-session coaching programme led by youth coaches Paige Caldecoat and Dan Costandi. The coaching was funded by SheSails through its ‘Sail Our Way’ grant – a grassroots initiative supporting the goals of Australian Sailing’s SAILING 2032. This is their strategic plan that includes a commitment to achieving 50% female participation across all aspects of the sport by 2032.Pia and Tory were joined by new members Megan Ross, Gosia Dziedzic and Amy Hargrave, keeping the momentum going through the chilly months and building the squad’s ‘match fitness’ for the spring

Sprint RacingAugust Sprints are Back!Pre-season training began on Saturday with a 12pm briefing and a 1pm first warning signal. We had a solid turnout, just shy of 20 boats on the water. The wind looked like a relatively stable 5+ knot westerly most of the morning. Luckily, we got two solid races in, before the wind completely glassed out halfway through Race 3.

Race Report Sunday 26 July 2026

Impressive turnout for a Sunday morning in the middle of winter! All photos by Tim Heath, Rob Blum or Maxim Djura.

Sprint RacingThree things I want to hear when I go sailing: 10-12 knots of breeze, stable wind, and an empty harbor. What is the phrase to describe all of it? “Champagne Sailing”. Brazilians call it “Captains Wind”. That’s what we got on Sunday. Winter is a magical time when the westerly is not an unpredictable atmospheric phenomenon, but a wind you can savour. Moths and Wazps appeared to agree, too, and shared sailing course with us on that gorgeous Sunday morning. It was sprints and the last early-Sunday racing of the year (next weekend we’re back to

Race Report Sunday 28 June 2026

All photos by Rod Barnes

Winter Championship / Point Score Races 22 & 23Sunday morning started cold and overcast, with light breeze shifting around from the south to south-west. There was mist sitting around the harbour and, while it was not exactly warm, it was still a pretty good morning to be out on Sydney Harbour. The race management team had an eventful start before racing began, with the Jazzman battery flat. This gave the PRO and LtRAR a lesson in Jazzman roadside assistance, which was useful, although hopefully jumpstarting is not something that needs regular practice. The first course was set racing West towards the Man-of-War Anchorage mooring, off the north of Clark Island and with the start
