This weekend SailGP will be on the harbour this Saturday. An exclusion zone will apply from Potts Point to Shark Island from 3pm (map). The club will host sprint racing in the bay as soon after the briefing (1pm) as possible until just before 3pm. Can all sailors be rigged, dressed and prepared to splash immediately after the briefing? After racing, we’ll be taking the RIBs out to watch SailGP, aiming for departure from the deck at 3.45pm.It is expected to be a busy day on the harbour with good weather, and lots of traffic. Wednesday Twilight sailing is on!
The forecast for Wednesday evening is for a 15 knot north easterly and temperatures in the high 20s. Twilight sailing is on! Better yet, the CYCA is not running twilights tomorrow so the harbour should have less traffic.
Volly of the Week
Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing. This week we’d like to thank Diana Chen for coordinating our Christmas Party with the assistance of Peter Collie. Special mention also goes to John Vasey for coordinating lighting and James Tudball for providing the band.
The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Do you know of someone who deserves a mention? If so, email us and tell us why they should be club member of the week.
Race Report 11 December 2021
On Saturday the club hosted the annual Tyrrell and Rousso races. Federal Member for Wentworth, Dave Sharma joined the club for the briefing and was the guest starter on the Jazzman for the Tyrell race.It was yet again another wild and woolly day of racing. 22 sailors braved 25-30 knot southerly with gusts of 35 registered during the racing period. Given the conditions, most of the full rig sailors downsized to radial sails, except Mike Dunne and Ian Alexander who muscled out the conditions in their regular rigs. Peter Collie and Daryl Lawrence opted to sail in 4.7 rigs. There were some wild rides downwind (see The Top Mark) and a graveyard for a gybe mark, yet aside from Peter Collie’s nose, there wasn’t much carnage to report. The race winners were Mike Dunne in the pursuit (Tyrell) race and Luke Parker in the Rousso.Racing was overseen by Craig Sheers (PRO)
