On Saturday races 5 and 6 of the club championship were completed in a fresh north easterly wind.PRO Josh Kirton oversaw racing and was ably assisted by Geoff Boscoe (LTRAR), with on water assistance from Andrew Simpson (COTD) and John Chesterman(co-COTD). Off the water, Ben Wirtz and Kerryn Smith assisted Paul and Shirley in the canteen, while Ian Alexander and others helped clean up after the bbq and drinks.Our race winners were Alexander Bijkerk and David Newman in the standard rigs (David Newman is top of the leader board), and in the radial fleet Evie Saunders dominated the day (James Tudball is top of the leader board). There are some photos from racing on the club’s facebook page.After racing, the club hosted a special presentation for Jules Hall and Jan ‘Clogs’ Scholten for their success in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race two handed division. The JJ Giltinan regatta for the 18’ skiffs will be held at the club from 4-13 March. During that period the club will be busy with a fleet of skiffs, sailors and supporters. Spectator ferry tickets can be purchased online.Shirley and Paul are also looking for some volunteer assistance in the canteen during this regatta. Can you please let them know if you are able to assist on any of these days?

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.This week we’d like to thank Rod Barnes. Rod has been our Laser Representative for this and last season and he has done a magnificent job of organising our travelling band of sailors – from coordinating transport arrangements to personally paying for accommodation in the blind faith that we reimburse him (we do!). Rod also spends a lot of time helping with the building and maintenance of our clubhouse. co-ordinated the jobs list for our working bee and managed the procurement and modifications to the boat hoist that we now have at the club.[Editor’s apology: we do not seem to have a good photo of Rod and his lovely smile!]The club is

On Saturday sprint races were held at the club in fresh and squally southerly conditions. Many thanks to Matt Wenke (PRO) and Christine Patton (LTRAR) for conducting racing with the on water assistance of David Huber (COTD) and Ross Ramsay (co-COTD). In the canteen, Paul and Shirley were assisted by Mac Finlayson and Peter Collie.

Meanwhile, a strong contingent of Double Bay sailors travelled to the Bay Sailing Centre in Port Stephens to compete in the NSW & ACT Laser Association State Masters Championships. Following the success of the inaugural club picnic, this event is returning on Sunday 30 January 2022. Similar to the last event, we will sail down to Kutti beach and have a picnic on the shore. Further details and a request for RSVP will be posted closer to the date.
