Can't control the weather…

While Brett Beyer may be DBSC’s esteemed SuperCoach, there are some things he can’t do – like control the weather… As BBSP subscribers are aware, our last Club Championship races were abandoned owing to a lack of wind. Brett, who made the trip down on the day, was unable to provide the BBSP as there was no racing. He has kindly offered to refund subscribers. If you would like to request a refund, can you please EMAIL your bank details to Andrew Cox.

Help a traveller out!

James Mitchell (Laser 214414) is planning to come from Melbourne to Double Bay for the ILCA anniversary event (30 May). He will be travelling in a VW Transporter RV and is looking to park outside someone’s house with access to bathroom facilities for 2-3 nights and willing to pay for this. Is there someone nearby the club that can help James? History Corner

How the club has changed! Jim Ley, a founding member of DBSC tells us, “The club became a social mecca for kids from Double Bay and adjoining suburbs. It was a meeting place where teenagers gathered to work on their boats and socialise. The club took on its role as a venue to foster social events such as club dances and so on, it became a popular meeting place for kids in the area. The club at one time had a football team.” It is interesting to speculate on the team and positions for the 2021 season – Andrew Cox or Pat Levy at halfback?

Race Report: 2 May 2021

Sunday 2 May was the first day of our winter racing season, although nobody informed Huey (the weather)! A combined fleet of nearly 30 sailors took to the water along with Australian Sailing Squad members, Mara Stransky and Zoe Hamilton, and the NSWIS team, coached on the day by Tom Burton.With clouds and a warm morning, the winter westerly was subdued and shut down early, in fact during the first race, with many sailors unable to make it to the end of the second lap before timing out. It took a little time for the northerly to set in at sea level, but once it did, we were able to have a further two races in light but reliable conditions.The results have been dancing with Gremlins, and will be available on the website in due course.Many thanks to PRO, Luke Parker who persevered in tricky conditions. Golden Jubilee

We’re thrilled to be hosting a Sydney Harbour birthday bash for the 50th anniversary of the ILCA Laser one-design class on Sunday, 30 May 2021.The event will be a “parade” sail from Fort Denison to Watsons Bay, with participants gathering on water at Farm Cove at 09:30 before a 10:00 departure. A start procedure and course will be provided in the Sailing Instructions. Participants are invited to attend DBSC after the event for a free BBQ and prize draw. All visitors are welcome and club dollies will be provided for those that sail in.There will be prizes for entering and participating, including a hull upgrade (donated by PSA) and three new sails (donated by NB Sailsports). Membership subscriptions now due

While it might be winter and sailing isn’t at the front of everyone’s mind, the bills keep rolling in… Many thanks to the majority of members who have paid their memberships on time. This allows our club to keep running smoothly.We do however, have 30% of members that have not paid their subscriptions.
