Don't miss out on the Action and Relaxation at DBSC Twilights!

…Every week Double Bay sailors head out midweek for a sailing fix on Wednesdays and Thursdays – 5pm Splash. Last week was no exception, on Thursday we had 14 on the water, and were joined by Mina Ferguson who gave coaching support and advice. Thankyou again James Tudball who organizes the Thursday course setting and coaches. All members are invited to join us.

Autumn Point Score Races 3 & 4

PRO David Newman reports:As we prepared for a sweltering Sunday, we were met with a mostly overcast day with a northeast breeze that was forecast to build. I it didn’t disappoint, albeit a little puffy and oscillating both left and right, making for a tricky day on the water for the sailors. We had a strong contingent of visitors from around the harbour, which added to our slightly depleted club fleet, with some still enjoying their summer breaks. Race 3 of the Autumn Point Score got started on time on a very efficient and well-set course

RACE REPORT 27 January 2024

PRO Geoff Boscoe reports:Saturday’s on-water crew arrived at the club looking forward to hosting Australia Day Long weekend sprints in the forecasted moderate north-eastery breeze. However, Ma Nature was slow to get the message and it remained completely calm at the time of the 1pm briefing. That was embarrassing, especially since we were hoping to impress a contingent of Worlds Masters competitors who were joining us from all points of the globe expecting champagne sailing on Sydney harbour. Nevertheless, there was no option but to hoist the AP flag, settle in at the clubhouse with a world famous toasted sandwich and remain optimistic. Fortunately, the patience of around 20 sailors was rewarded just before 2pm when light ENE breeze

Festivus Sailing 23 December

Luke Parker reminds us that as our families give us a leave pass to sail each Saturday, it’s our obligation to use it. There is no official club sailing on 23 December as it’s the Christmas weekend, however as Seinfeld fans know, 23 December is also Festivus (Gen Y, Z and younger sailors might want to click this link to understand what we’re talking about: https://youtu.be/1njzgXSzA-A). To celebrate, we’re planning an old school twilight-type experience, and everyone is welcome to join in.  Details:1.30PM launch from the club, rabbit starts, windward-leeward around the fixed buoys in the Harbour. The start sequence is the tricky bit… the nominated lead boat (aka rabbit) will yell and wave to attract attention and then round the bottom buoy on port and sail upwind. The fleet should be lined up on starboard, and each boat ducks the rabbit to start. We’ll rotate the role of rabbit amongst the

TyRrell & Rousso Race Day

PRO Ian Alexander reports:The Double Bay Sailing Club’s annual Tyrrell and Rousso event was held last weekend. The two races – the Richard Tyrrell handicap race and the Mano Rousso yardstick race allow all three classes to be pitted against each other in novel formats that pay homage to two of our great former members of DBSC.Conditions were challenging, with Sydney Harbour turning on a full NE’er gusting up to 25 knots. Despite the tough conditions, the sailors put on an impressive display of skill and determination weathering many capsizes and near misses, but were impressively well-behaved on the start line and around the race track. In
