Mini Club Clean-up – This Saturday

We are so excited that the club is full of regular racing members this season. As there are more sailors using the club, as well as the 18-Footers and club hires, we ask all members to try and keep the club tidy at all times. Please store all personal belongings with your boat or take them home with you each week. This includes the change rooms, shared spaces, and all nooks and crannies. This Saturday (14 October) we will be doing a mini spring clean before racing. This means any clothing, sails, spars etc. left lying around will be deemed lost property and dealt with accordingly. We appreciate your assistance on this and hope that you can treat the club as your

Club Spring Championships – Races 5 & 6A large fleet of 60 boats, including visitors, was met with 8 to 15 knots shifting between SSW to SSE. A southerly course was laid, with the top mark set well into Double Bay.The wind seemed to build over the course of the afternoon, gusting up to 18 knots, making for quick racing and allowing for plenty of time to enjoy the Championship BBQ.Both fleets showed some exuberance at the start of the first race, but this was promptly subdued with the appearance of the black flag. There were lots of tight battles right across the fleets in both races. While Murray narrowly won out in

Recycling Old Sails

If you are starting to accumulate a heap of old sails that you no longer use, we encourage all members to recycle these. Recycled sails are made into motorbike covers, surfboard covers and bike bags, fashionable carry bags, sails for fisherman in the South Pacific, or are resold to leisure sailors through Sail Exchange.. Geoff Kirk is very kindly collecting these, so either give them to him directly at the clubhouse or contact him at gdfkirk@gmail.com.

Twilight Sailing Program – October to December

Member Photo

Our Twilight Sailing is ramping up! Wednesday and ThursdayAfter an extensive survey of our current twilight sailors in relation to our club’s twilight sailing program, we have decided to shift our main twilight night to Thursdays as part of a three month trial, kicking off on Thursday 5 October, listed on our club’s calendar as Twilight Racing. What about Wednesdays? We will keep Wednesday as an informal sailing activity kicking off on Wednesday 4 October, listed on our club’s calendar as Twilight Sailing. Why the change? There was strong support for Thursdays as the preferred night among the existing twilight sailors, particularly due to the safety issues surrounding the CYC big boats on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, our section

RACE REPORT 9 SEPTEMBER 2023

SPRING POINTSCORE Races 1 & 2Last Saturday was a near perfect day to be on Sydney Harbour with 53+ boats getting on the water. When the race crew made our way out around lunch time to lay some marks, the breeze was a 10 – 12 kt westerly north of Clark Island and some steep shifts around to the south west coming out of Rushcutters Bay. With the breeze predicted to make its way around to the south around start time and then roll slightly further east late in the afternoon, we hedged our bets and set up for a south-south westerly, hoping that we’d have only some minor adjustments to make just prior to 2pm.That plan went to custard when the sea breeze gods made an early appearance and instead dialled in a modest south easterly and leaving the start crew scrambling to find some sense and sensibility.
