Race Report 9 May
A combined fleet of over 25 sailors managed to squeeze in racing around Mother’s Day commitments. Warm overnight temperatures owing to cloud cover meant the morning westerly was not particularly strong, but did hang around for longer than previous weeks. This provided mostly stable breeze for the second weekend of the winter series with three races completed (although the last race shortened). In the standard rig championship, Luke Parker won the first race while Rod Barnes secured the other two races, while in the point score, races were won by John Vasey and Tim Heath (equal race 4), Geoff Boscoe (race 5) and Rod Barnes (race 6). In the radial rig championship, Sylvie Stannage was the winner of the first two races with Ethan Lozevski securing the third race and in the point score Quentin Burns, Diana Chen and Peter Collie each won a race. Many thanks to all of those who
Laser wanted (209000 – 216000)
We have a new member, Ross Ramsay, who is looking to buy a laser and join us in the fleet. He is looking for a Laser Radial of a vintage circa 2016-2019 in good condition. This translates roughly to sail numbers 209000 – 216000. If anyone is able help Ross find a boat, please contact him here.
Winter series and BBWP
Sunday 2nd May will be the first day of our Winter Series. The winter series will run weekly until 27 July (except during NSW school holidays). The finer details of timings and race format will be sent to members shortly but expect an early start with 3 races around 30-mins each. It’s a great way to maintain your sailing fitness and the early morning sail means you have the rest of the day to spend time with family and friends. There are still places available for the Brett Beyer Coaching Winter Program starting Sunday 2 May. This is a great opportunity to improve on your sailing skills over the winter season.

Race Report
The final weekend of club championship racing was a fizzer, with racing abandoned owing to no wind. Most members stayed around for an end of season BBQ lunch on the clubhouse deck. Many thanks to the helpers rostered on for the day, as well as those extras who helped Shirley with salads while the bbq was lit up for steaks and sausages! This week brought to a close the 2020/21 Club Championship. In the Standard fleet Rod Barnes was victorious with 26.0 points, with Ian Alexander 2nd (32.2 points) and Luke Parker 3rd (36 points). In the Radials Sylvie Stannage showed us the way with 22 points over Evie Saunders (27 points) and James Tudball (29 points). Congratulations to our series winners!

History Corner
How the club has changed! Jim Ley, a founding member of DBSC tells us, “The club became a social mecca for kids from Double Bay and adjoining suburbs. It was a meeting place where teenagers gathered to work on their boats and socialise. The club took on its role as a venue to foster social events such as club dances and so on, it became a popular meeting place for kids in the area. The club at one time had a football team.” It is interesting to speculate on the team and positions for the 2021 season – Andrew Cox or Pat Levy at halfback?
